Chinese automaker Changan is set to launch its first all-electric model, the Deepal S07, in Europe by the fourth quarter of 2024. Initially targeting Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands, Changan plans to expand its reach across several other European countries by 2028.
Changan has already established subsidiaries in Germany and the Netherlands in preparation for its entry. Following the initial launch, the Deepal S07 will be available in Switzerland, Sweden, and Finland by early 2025, the UK in July 2025, and Spain and Italy in 2026. Changan aims to be present in all major European markets within four years. The company first announced its intention to sell Deepal EVs in Europe in November 2023.
Leevon Tian, Deputy General Manager of Changan Automobile Europe Holding B.V., emphasized the significance of this move: “Our entry into this market is driven by our commitment to providing innovative, intelligent, and sustainable mobility solutions tailored to the evolving needs of European consumers.”
The Deepal S07, a mid-size electric SUV, was initially introduced in China in April 2023. Measuring 4.75 meters in length with a 2.90-meter wheelbase, it offers ample cargo space, including a 125-liter frunk. In China, the S07 comes with two electric powertrains: a 190 kW rear-wheel-drive model with a 69 kWh battery and a range of 520 kilometers, and a 160 kW version with an 80 kWh battery offering a range of 628 kilometers.
Changan, which has produced over 20 million vehicles since 1984, has a global presence with design centers in the UK, Germany, and Italy. The company’s move into Europe marks a significant step in its international expansion strategy.
