The Tesla Model Y has officially surpassed the Nissan Leaf to become Norway’s best-selling electric vehicle of all time, as sales records dating back to 2011 reveal. The all-electric crossover has outpaced the Leaf, one of the earliest EVs to hit the market, solidifying Tesla’s dominance in the Norwegian electric vehicle landscape.
Having been the world’s best-selling vehicle last year, the Model Y is on track to maintain its top spot in the United States this year. While the Nissan Leaf has been a long-time favorite, leading in all-time sales for several years, the Model Y has gradually closed the gap.
As of September, registration and sales figures indicate that the Model Y has sold 59,775 units in Norway, surpassing the Nissan Leaf’s 58,860, according to Electric Drives. This year alone, the Model Y leads Norway’s EV market with 12,578 sales in the first nine months, significantly ahead of competitors like the Volvo EX30 (5,318 sales) and the Volkswagen ID.4 (4,944 sales).
Additionally, the Tesla Model 3 ranks fourth with 4,652 units sold this year, placing it as the third-best-selling EV in Norway’s history, with a total of 43,910 units sold.
The Model Y’s success in multiple global markets, including Norway, cements its position as a dominant force in the EV sector, and it seems poised to continue breaking records this year.
