Car & Driver has awarded the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N its “2024 Electric Vehicle (EV) of the Year” title. The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which starts at $67,495, achieved a perfect 10 out of 10 rating from the publication.

“The electric Ioniq 5 is one impressive machine but that isn’t keeping Hyundai from cooking up a high-voltage N model for those who want maniacal performance,” Car & Driver stated in its review. The publication emphasized the vehicle’s value, noting, “Like other gas-fired models from the company’s N performance brand, the Ioniq 5 N delivers its thrills at a high-value price point—which makes it a shoo-in for our 2024 EV of the Year award.”

The Ioniq 5 N marks Hyundai’s first venture into electrifying its N series, traditionally known for producing sports cars with racetrack capabilities. Car & Driver tested the vehicle on a racing circuit in South Korea, reporting that the electric N model met high expectations. “We found that the 5 N does a commendable job of tracking straight during all-out launches and under hard ABS engagement on mixed-traction surfaces. Handling is balanced and controllable when you want it to be, but the drift mode allows you to hang the tail out when you want to have more fun,” the review noted.

Since its debut, the Ioniq 5 N has garnered significant attention, including being named a finalist in the 2024 World Car Awards. The vehicle’s success may encourage Hyundai to expand its all-electric N lineup, potentially extending to models under the Kia brand.
