Ford has announced a software-enabled performance upgrade for owners of the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT, priced at $995 before taxes. The upgrade enhances the all-electric crossover’s performance by providing an additional 100 lb-ft of torque from its two electric motors.

This boost reduces the vehicle’s 0-60 mph time from 3.8 seconds to 3.3 seconds, surpassing the Tesla Model Y Performance’s 3.5-second time but trailing the Porsche Macan Turbo EV’s 3.1 seconds. The total output of the Mustang Mach-E GT with the upgrade will increase to 480 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque.

The upgrade also allows the vehicle to complete a quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph, comparable to a Mustang Shelby GT500, a Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo GTS, or an Audi RS6 Avant Performance (C7).

Ford is offering the upgrade via the FordPass app, allowing owners to download and install the enhancement. The upgrade is also available as an option for new 2024 Mach-E GT units. “The capability to improve vehicle performance through over-the-air software updates is something that is unique to all-electric vehicles for now,” Ford noted.

Ford’s approach is similar to Tesla’s Acceleration Boost upgrades for the Model 3 and Model Y, though Tesla’s upgrade costs $2,000. This makes Ford’s $995 performance boost a cost-effective option for Mach-E GT owners.
