Automotive supplier Webasto announced it is expanding its Roof Sensor Module (RSM) portfolio to include robot taxis and autonomous trucks. Previously known for its RSM for passenger cars, Webasto aims to extend its expertise to more advanced vehicle technologies.
Webasto has developed roof modules that integrate multiple sensor technologies such as camera, radar, and lidar. The company has secured a project in the United States to supply its RSM to a robot taxi manufacturer.

“The next big step in this field of development will be autonomous trucks,” said Thomas Schütt, head of the business unit at Webasto. “Here, the requirements for sensor integration in terms of vibration, environmental detection, and runtime are even more demanding, and we can make optimum use of our expertise from the passenger car sector.”
Webasto’s sensor solutions include a compact sensor strip that integrates various sensors and functions, transmitting signals and environmental information to the vehicle’s control unit. This development expands Webasto’s product portfolio, which now includes sensor modules for passenger cars, robot taxis, people movers, and autonomous trucks.

Ensuring the functionality of detection systems at all times is crucial. Webasto combines cleaning and thermal management systems with sensor solutions to achieve this. Features for cleaning, de-icing, defogging, and sensor cooling ensure sensor availability in various weather conditions. The RSM can be customized to meet customer requirements, combining various sensors to create effective solutions.
