The battery-powered Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 tractor unit has demonstrated its operational readiness by completing a rigorous five-day journey spanning 1,400 miles across the United Kingdom. This feat, achieved during the EV Rally 2024 from July 1-5, underscores the vehicle’s capability in heavy-duty transportation.

Hauling a fully freighted 40-tonne GVW trailer, the eActros 600 emerged victorious as the sole tractor unit among the 50 electric vehicles participating in the event. The journey, which commenced from Oldbury in the West Midlands and covered 26 locations across the country, showcased the truck’s endurance and performance.

James Venables, Head of Future Sustainability at Daimler Truck UK, highlighted the eActros 600’s reliability and efficiency: “The truck is big, bold and exciting and taking part in this event has been great fun but, more importantly, we’ve proved that our engineers are right when they say the truck can cover 500 km on a single charge.”

During the rally, the eActros 600 utilized existing charging infrastructure efficiently, stopping at designated points to demonstrate its ability to recharge rapidly: “Using a 350 kW charger we were able to top up to 60% in about an hour, which was very impressive,” James added.

He emphasized the vehicle’s adaptability to diverse road transport needs in the UK, noting its environmental benefits: “What we demonstrated, without doubt, is that the eActros 600 is perfectly capable of slotting into most UK road transport applications seamlessly, offering an option that’s entirely free of exhaust emissions while also being exceptionally smooth, quiet and comfortable to drive.”

The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, which will commence production in December, is now available for order through the manufacturer’s national Dealer Network.
