Volkswagen has officially revealed the Volkswagen ID.UNYX, the inaugural model in its ID.UX series of smart electric compact coupe SUVs. The car, set for a mid-July launch, offers consumers a choice between two trim levels, each boasting impressive cruising ranges of 621 km and 565 km.

Underlining its significance, ID.UX embodies Volkswagen’s motto of “Make Every Moment Gold.” The German automaker plans to introduce five smart electric vehicles under the ID.UX series by 2027. Production for the ID.UNYX is handled by Volkswagen Anhui, established in 2017 as Volkswagen’s third vehicle joint venture in China.

Formerly known as JAC Volkswagen, the joint venture saw Volkswagen and JAC initially holding 50% each. Volkswagen increased its stake to 75% in JAC Volkswagen by acquiring shares from JAC Holdings, the largest shareholder of JAC Motors, in May 2020. Volkswagen Anhui commenced production of the Cupra Tavascan for export to Europe by the end of 2023.

The Volkswagen ID.UNYX features distinctive design elements including a luminous golden Volkswagen logo, through-type light strips connecting LED headlights, and air intake elements on the front bumper. The A-pillar is blackened to create a floating roof effect, complemented by hidden door handles, petal-shaped rims, and a layered rear design. The charging port is conveniently located on the rear right side of the vehicle.

Both variants utilize 82.4 kWh ternary lithium battery packs supplied by CATL, delivering the aforementioned cruising ranges.

Interior details include a three-spoke steering wheel, suspended instrument panel, and a large central control screen. The minimalist center console features two cup holders and wireless charging panels, with further specifications awaited from Volkswagen.
