Kia Motors’ upcoming EV9 GT is set to elevate the electric SUV segment with its high-performance enhancements, spotted testing in Korea ahead of its official release. Following the successful launch of the EV9 last year in Korea and subsequent entry into the US market, where it has garnered significant attention, Kia aims to expand its global footprint with this new variant.

The EV9, which debuted in the US market last December with base prices starting below $55,000, has already seen robust sales, with 9,671 units sold through the first half of 2024. With production underway in Georgia since May, Kia anticipates continued momentum, particularly boosted by potential federal tax credits reducing prices to as low as $48,995.

Kia has confirmed the introduction of the EV9 GT trim by January 2025, promising “enormous power” with acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/hr) in under 4 seconds. The GT variant will feature a dual-motor AWD powertrain for enhanced acceleration, complemented by reinforced suspension and electronic braking systems to ensure stability at high speeds.

The recent sighting of the EV9 GT testing showcases its distinctive design elements, including a modified front bumper for a more aggressive aesthetic. While details are partially obscured by camouflage, enthusiasts and prospective buyers are eagerly anticipating further updates on its specifications and performance capabilities.

The EV9 GT is poised to follow the success of Kia’s EV6 GT, renowned as the brand’s most powerful vehicle to date, boasting 576 hp and achieving a 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 3.4 seconds.
