Mitsubishi has revealed its ambitious vision for the future in North America with a comprehensive plan called ‘Momentum 2030.’ This strategy aims to nearly double the size of Mitsubishi’s lineup in the region, accelerate electrification efforts, and expand its dealer network to better serve customers.
As part of ‘Momentum 2030,’ Mitsubishi plans to launch one completely new or redesigned vehicle every year from 2026 to 2030. This lineup expansion includes the introduction of two vehicles in entirely new segments for Mitsubishi.
One of the exciting new entries hinted at by an unnamed dealer speaking to Autonews is Mitsubishi’s venture into the minivan segment. The brand is reportedly working on a rugged vehicle based on the D:X Concept, unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show last fall. The concept, a futuristic six-seater with plug-in hybrid powertrain and distinctive Delica-like styling, aims to convey a robust and capable image.
Furthermore, Mitsubishi has committed to introducing a fully electric vehicle as part of its ‘Momentum 2030’ plan, with reports suggesting collaboration with Nissan, a close partner, for its development. Details about this electric vehicle are still forthcoming. Additionally, Mitsubishi may also enter the pickup truck segment, potentially in partnership with Nissan.
In the crossover and SUV category, Mitsubishi plans to introduce a more rugged variant of the Outlander next year, featuring proportions akin to the Subaru Outback. This will be followed by a new small crossover with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, slated to replace the Mirage as the brand’s entry-level model.
Expanding its presence, Mitsubishi intends to establish new dealerships in previously untapped regions of the U.S., enhancing accessibility for customers. These new locations will showcase a modernized brand image, aligning with Mitsubishi’s goal of providing a superior shopping and ownership experience. Additionally, Mitsubishi will manufacture one of its new vehicles in North America, leveraging Nissan’s support.
Mark Chaffin, President, and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, expressed confidence in the ‘Momentum 2030’ plan, stating, “Mitsubishi Motors is at a pivotal point in North America, charting a bold, clear and attainable plan for our future success in the United States.” He added, “Momentum 2030 will build on that, setting the stage for new powertrains and vehicles being introduced, new dealerships being opened, and new technologies being developed to make the shopping and ownership experience faster, easier and more enjoyable.”
