Genesis to Introduce New Electric SUV, Aiming to Compete in Luxury Market

Genesis, the luxury vehicle division of Hyundai Motor Group, has revealed its intentions to introduce a new electric SUV late next year, positioning itself to compete with established luxury SUVs such as the Cadillac Escalade and Range Rover. The upcoming full-size electric SUV is anticipated to have a notable impact on the brand as it seeks to make headway against its luxury competitors.

The new electric SUV was previewed following the unveiling of the Neolun concept in March, showcasing features that Genesis believes exceed traditional standards. Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis’ Creative Officer, described the SUV as epitomizing timeless design and sophisticated craftsmanship, suggesting it will stand out in the competitive luxury SUV segment.

The concept’s design philosophy is centered around simplicity and purity, with a “reductive design” approach that avoids unnecessary lines or details. Features such as coach doors and the absence of B-pillars contribute to a sleek exterior design that seamlessly integrates with the roofline.

Inside, the SUV is designed to offer a spacious interior. An advanced “sound architecture” aims to deliver an immersive audio experience comparable to a concert hall, achieved through strategic placement of speakers throughout the vehicle.

Production of the full-size electric SUV, expected to be named the Genesis GV90, is slated to commence in December 2025. The vehicle will be the first to utilize Hyundai’s next-generation “eM” platform, which is anticipated to offer cost savings compared to current EV models like the IONIQ 5. The platform will also support different battery options, including NCM and LFP, catering to a range of user preferences.

Hyundai Motor Group, encompassing Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, has ambitious plans to become a top-three EV maker by 2030, with a target of selling 2 million EVs globally by the end of the decade. The group plans to introduce 13 new models on the next-gen platform, showcasing its commitment to advancing electric mobility.
