IM Motors’ IM L6 to Feature Solid-State Battery, Promising Over 1,000 Kilometers of Range

IM Motors, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of SAIC Motor Corp, has announced that its new model, the IM L6, will be equipped with solid-state batteries, providing the vehicle with a range of more than 1,000 kilometers.

The IM L6 will be built on a quasi-900 V high-voltage platform, making it the industry’s first production vehicle to carry an ultra-fast-charging solid-state battery, according to IM Motors co-CEO Liu Tao.

In a statement on Weibo, Liu Tao said, “Over 1,000 kilometers of range + quasi 900 V ultra-fast charging will completely solve the mileage anxiety of pure electric vehicles.”

Liu emphasized that the over 1,000-kilometer range will be achieved on a four-wheel-drive version of the IM L6, combining ultra-long range with high performance.

The solid-state battery in the IM L6 utilizes exclusive patented technologies, including nanoscale solid-state electrolytes, making it the industry’s first quasi-900 V ultra-fast-charging solid-state battery. This technology allows for nearly 1,000 kilometers of range to be achieved in a shorter period of time, according to Liu.

The battery pack also incorporates safer solid-state electrolytes, ensuring the ultra-high-grade safety of the battery from the cell level.

Additionally, a report by local media outlet Wallstreetcn states that the IM L6 will be powered by a solid-state battery with a capacity of 130 kWh.

IM Motors is planning three generations of solid-state battery products, with more details to be revealed at the IM L6 technical launch on April 8, according to the report.
