The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has declared the Kia EV9 as the World’s Best Car for 2024, a prestigious accolade coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024. The EV9 succeeds last year’s winner, the Kia Niro, in clinching the coveted title.
Marta Garcia, executive president of WWCOTY, commented on this year’s tough competition, stating, “This year’s election was particularly difficult due to the excellent level of all the candidates. Each of the finalists had sufficient merit to win the trophy. The Kia EV9 has won out over its rivals because it is a vehicle capable of satisfying the needs of consumers everywhere.”

The Kia EV9 emerged victorious from a pool of five finalists, each representing their respective categories, for its “cutting-edge design, incorporating advanced technology and offering both bidirectional charging and ultra-fast charging capabilities.” Initially hailed as the Best SUV, the EV9 ultimately secured the prestigious World’s Best Car of 2024 title. Other category winners for 2024 included the Volvo EX30 (Best Family Car), BMW 5 Series (Best Large Car), Volkswagen Amarok (Best 4×4 & Pick-up), and Aston Martin DB12 (Best Exclusive Car).
The competition began with 63 vehicular contenders, all launched on at least two continents between January 1 and December 31, 2023. These vehicles underwent thorough evaluation by 75 women motoring journalists from 52 countries across five continents.

The Kia EV9’s recognition as the WWCOTY’s Best Car of 2024 adds to its list of accolades this year. In January, the electric SUV was named the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY)’s 2024 SUV of the Year. The Ford Super Duty claimed NACTOY’s Truck of the Year title, while the Toyota Prius was honored as the 2024 Car of the Year.
Furthermore, the EV9 has been selected as one of three finalists for the 2024 World Car of the Year by the World Car Awards. Competing against the Volvo EX30 and BYD Seal, this marks BYD’s first entry into the top spot contention. The winner will be announced on March 27, 2024, at the New York International Auto Show.
