Paccar Parts Europe has installed an advanced power supply system at Best Trucks, a DAF Electric Truck Centre in Barendrecht, the Netherlands. This system includes solar panels, power storage, and three fast-charging connections, showcasing a significant advancement in sustainable energy solutions for the transportation industry.
The microgrid at Best Trucks is comprised of 750 roof-mounted solar panels and a 480 kWh battery storage capacity. An energy management system coordinates these components efficiently. Additionally, three fast-charging connections, with a maximum output of 360 kW, have been installed. Two of these charging stations are located within the workshop, capable of charging electric lorries within an hour, while the third station is accessible to the public.

Ronald Janssen, a representative from Paccar Parts Europe, highlighted the significance of this microgrid in ensuring a consistent and sustainable energy supply. “Due to the increasing demand for energy, securing the energy supply is under pressure. You don’t want to choose between keeping the lights on in the workshop or supercharging your customers’ electric vehicles,” Janssen explained. “This microgrid ensures a consistent and sustainable energy supply while also facilitating rapid charging. It remains operational even in unfavourable weather conditions or during periods of insufficient grid electricity. It is good to know we always can rely on the energy storage.”
The collaboration between Paccar Parts Europe and DAF Trucks dates back to 2021 when DAF Trucks announced a comprehensive range of charging stations, with outputs ranging from 20 kW to 350 kW, from Paccar’s portfolio. This partnership was further solidified in 2022 with a charging collaboration with Heliox, showcasing the commitment of both companies to advancing sustainable transportation solutions.
