Swiss technology group ABB announced on Tuesday that Morten Wierod, currently Head of the Electrification division, will take over as Chief Executive Officer from Björn Rosengren, effective August 1, 2024.
Wierod, 52, has been with ABB since 1998 and has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2019. He holds a masterâs degree in electrical engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
The company stated that Rosengren will relinquish his position as CEO on July 31 and will leave ABB completely at the end of the year. To ensure a smooth transition, Rosengren will provide advice and support to Wierod and the Executive Committee starting August 1 until the end of the year.
Peter Voser, Chairman of the Board of Directors, praised Wierod as an outstanding internal candidate, stating, “Morten is a strong successor to Björn with his deep understanding of ABB and our decentralized operating model in addition to his extensive expertise across our key customer segments and strong performance track record.”
Wierod expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “After we have set more ambitious financial and sustainability standards not long ago, I will continue building on our decentralized operating model to capture the full potential of our market leading positions in electrification and automation.”
Rosengren, who led ABB for the past four years, commented, “It has been an honor to lead ABB over the past years and I am convinced that the company will be in good hands with Morten.”
The decision to promote Wierod was made after a careful selection process by the Board of Directors. The recruitment process for Wierodâs previous position will be initiated shortly.
