The New York City Government will convert its city fleet to electric power by 2035. To achieve this, the government has budgeted $420 million which will also be used to build an electric vehicle charging facility.

Conversion from internal combustion vehicles to electric vehicles covers the full range of light, medium and non-emergency city heavy-duty vehicles.

The transition to an all-electric fleet will be accelerated with an investment of $420 million, which will also be used for the construction of a new electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The investment is the largest of its kind in terms of converting a public vehicle fleet to electric power, and will cover the entire city’s light, medium and non-emergency heavy-duty vehicles.

New York previously targeted converting their fleet to electric vehicles by 2040, but is now accelerating that goal by five years. The New York City Government operates the largest municipal fleet in the nation, totaling approximately 30,000 vehicles.

The plan includes the replacement of 1,250 gasoline-powered vehicles next year, as well as the installation of 1,776 new electric vehicle charging stations by 2030. It is hoped that at least 100 new electric vehicle chargers will be open to the public. .

In addition, the city will add 180 portable electric vehicle chargers and solar carports. This charger can be moved from one location to another providing a flexible charging solution, plus emergency power after a wider power grid outage.
