As Kia gears up for the release of its more compact and budget-friendly electric SUV, the Kia EV3, the prototype was recently spotted undergoing testing on the roads of South Korea. Anticipation is building ahead of the scheduled launch next year, offering a closer look at the actual size and design of this smaller sibling to Kia’s flagship EV9.
Unveiled for the first time in the North American market at the 2023 LA Auto Show, the Kia EV3 was initially showcased at Kia’s annual EV day in October. Positioned as a compact crossover, the EV3 aims to deliver a blend of cutting-edge technology, practicality, and design elements inspired by the larger EV9.
The EV3’s distinctive features include a forward-leaning windshield, a sleek sloping roofline, and a unique C Pillar design, contributing to its resemblance to a scaled-down EV9 crossover. The front showcases a fresh EV Tiger Face, aligning with Kia’s innovative “Opposites United” design theme. Signature star map lighting and vertical LED headlamps enhance the EV3’s futuristic and commanding aesthetic.
Inside, the EV3 boasts a flexible interior with four different modes—focus, social, refreshing, and storage—that adapt the layout to various user needs. Adding an eco-friendly touch, the center console is crafted from mushrooms.
Recent images captured during testing in South Korea offer a closer view of the EV3’s details, including the vertical LED lights peering through camouflage and square-cut wheel designs reminiscent of the EV9. The star map, lightning, and LED lights on the rear further contribute to the EV3’s distinctive appearance.
A video from Shorts Car provides an insightful perspective on the EV3’s size, showcasing its compact dimensions compared to other SUVs on the road. With an expected length of 166.7 inches, width of 72.3 inches, and height of 61.1 inches, the EV3 is anticipated to align closely with vehicles like the Volvo EX30 or Hyundai Kona, offering a more nimble and accessible electric SUV option.
As for pricing, the Kia EV3 is projected to launch with a starting price around $35,000, positioning it competitively within the market and aligning with the pricing of the Volvo EX30. Enthusiasts and potential buyers can eagerly await the official launch next year, where the EV3 is poised to make a notable entrance into the expanding landscape of electric vehicles.
