Belgium’s Electra and SPIE Partner to Expand Fast-Charging Network

Electra and SPIE Belgium have announced the construction of 21 new fast-charging sites across Belgium. Each site will feature three to six fast-charging stations. The collaboration marks a significant step in Electra’s ambition to become the largest EV charging provider in Belgium and Luxembourg by 2030 with a target of 250 installed stations.

The project’s first construction work commenced in September 2023 and is supported by SPIE, a leading multi-technical services provider. While the timeline for completion and the stations’ performance capabilities remain undisclosed, SPIE will undertake essential roles beyond initial installation. The service provider is responsible for ensuring the infrastructure can handle consumption peaks, thereby maintaining network and facility integrity. Additionally, SPIE will perform both preventative and corrective maintenance on the stations, accounting for approximately 20% of the total investment in the electrification project.

Louis-Charles Mosseray, General Manager at Electra, stated, “We are thrilled that we can rely on SPIE Belgium as a partner, working hand in hand on the deployment of these 21 rapid charging stations across the country. This first partnership will help us to solidify the numerous land partnerships that we have already entered into, and is a cornerstone in our ambitious plan to deploy 250 charging stations by 2030.”

The collaboration reflects a broader trend toward increased investment in sustainable transportation, as companies and governments alike acknowledge the importance of extensive and reliable charging networks to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles.
