Fisker has announced its intent to roll out two over-the-air (OTA) software updates in the coming weeks, signaling a sustained effort to improve the software components of their Fisker Ocean SUVs. Henrik Fisker, Chairman and CEO, emphasized the significance of software improvements in modern vehicles. “In the 21st century, our vehicles are more like rolling computers than the cars of the past,” Fisker said. “We have a dedicated team of software engineers who are continually working to enhance our vehicles. Our ongoing OTA strategy means Fisker owners will routinely see improvements based on their feedback.”

Key Areas for Updates

The first update is designed to target multiple areas including customer feedback, general bug fixes, and an enhancement to the drivetrain and 12-volt battery performance, among other improvements. The second update will bring a highly-anticipated analytics feature to the vehicle’s SolarSky roof. With this addition, owners can conveniently access live and historical solar analytics from their vehicle’s central touchscreen. The user interface will provide data on solar gains over the past day, week, month, year, or even the lifetime of the vehicle, in both watt-hours and miles/km gained.

Energy Monitoring and Trip Statistics

Another notable feature of the update is enhanced trip statistics. Owners can monitor various aspects of their travel, including current trip metrics and distance covered since their last charge. The energy metrics for these drives will also be made available.

In an effort to assist energy-conscious drivers, the new updates will also introduce a feature for monitoring energy consumption. Users will be able to compare their driving metrics to those of other Fisker Ocean drivers and to the vehicle’s projected energy use. This aims to educate drivers on the impact of their driving habits on battery life and range.

Fisker has made it clear that these updates are just the beginning of a long-term strategy to continuously improve their vehicles via software enhancements. The company is committed to incorporating user feedback into its upgrades and releasing them in a timely manner.
