In a recent update on their official website, Rivian has unveiled an exciting addition to their electric vehicle lineup. The all-electric R1S SUV can now be configured with the new Max Pack battery, boasting an impressive EPA-estimated range of 400 miles. This development was first spotted by a vigilant member of the Rivian Forums community, DuoRivians, who shared a screenshot showcasing the available battery options for the zero-emissions SUV.
According to the online configurator, the R1S equipped with the Max Pack starts at a price point of $94,000. This package includes 21-inch road wheels and Rivian’s proprietary dual-motor setup, delivering a robust 533 horsepower. Notably, the Max Pack can also be combined with the Performance dual-motor setup, which cranks up the power to 665 horsepower, all while maintaining the 400-mile range. This enhanced performance option comes with a price tag of $99,000.
For those who desire an all-terrain experience, Rivian offers an optional $3,600 All-Terrain upgrade, complete with 20-inch all-terrain wheels. However, this choice does reduce the EPA-estimated range slightly to 355 miles, applicable to both the standard and performance dual-motor R1S.
Comparing the Max Pack battery to the previously available Large Pack battery, it’s evident that the Max Pack offers a significant improvement. Despite being $10,000 more expensive, it provides an additional 48 miles of range, as indicated on Rivian’s website.
CEO and founder of Rivian, RJ Scaringe, also recently announced exciting plans for a Max Pack + Dual-Motor AWD configuration of the R1S with seven seats. This variant is projected to have a range of 390 miles and is set for delivery in the fall. Given the typical four-month lead time for custom Rivian orders, it remains to be seen if customers can expect their Max Pack-equipped R1S before autumn concludes. Nevertheless, this development marks a significant milestone for the all-electric SUV market, offering the promise of extended ranges.
In related news, Rivian’s online R1T inventory shop has introduced a “Max Pack” filter, hinting at the potential availability of ready-made pickups with the largest available battery pack. These vehicles could be delivered in as little as one to six weeks. However, it’s worth noting that the “Max Pack” filter is currently grayed out, indicating that such configurations are not yet available for purchase.
