BMW Teases Upcoming Coupe-SUV, Likely Next-Gen X2 or Electric iX2

BMW has taken to its social media platforms to release an intriguing teaser, unveiling a coupe-SUV that is believed to be the next generation of the X2 or its anticipated all-electric counterpart, the iX2.

The brief yet enigmatic teaser video provides a glimpse of the model’s silhouette and distinctive lighting signature. At the forefront, BMW’s design team has chosen to accentuate the kidney grille, characterized by a polygonal shape inspired by the X6. Meanwhile, the assertive headlights bear a striking resemblance to the mechanically related X1, albeit with LED graphics that are expected to be unique to the X2.

The proportions of this coupe-SUV align with prior spy shots of the X2, signaling a notable departure from the current generation, which leans more towards a hatchback-style crossover. A lengthened rear overhang accommodates the gracefully sweeping roofline, mirroring the aesthetics of its larger siblings, the X4 and X6. Observers can also discern the integrated rear spoiler, subtle indications of the high-mounted taillights, and a glimpse of the rear bumper’s texture.

The upcoming BMW X2 is anticipated to share its interior and underpinnings with the X1. Spy shots have confirmed the existence of a coupe-SUV variant equivalent to the X1 M35i xDrive, boasting 312 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, alongside a range of lesser and more mainstream variants. As for the fully electric iX2, it is expected to mirror the specifications of the dual-motor iX1 eDrive30, generating 308 horsepower and offering a range of 413-439 kilometers (257-273 miles) from a 64.7 kWh battery pack. Given the sportier character of the X2, there is speculation that BMW may opt to exclude some of the entry-level engines found in the X1 lineup.

While BMW has not disclosed a specific debut date, the teaser’s “coming soon” tagline suggests that the X2’s full reveal is imminent, sparking anticipation among automotive enthusiasts and consumers alike.
