Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD has unveiled its latest addition to the Mexican market, the BYD Dolphin. This compact electric vehicle marks BYD’s fourth model in Mexico, following the successful launches of the Han, Tang, and Yuan Plus. The official launch event took place on September 20, 2023, and the BYD Dolphin comes with an enticing starting price of 535,990 Mexican pesos (approximately $31,250).
Originally introduced in China on August 29, 2021, the BYD Dolphin has already gained traction in its home market. In China, it offers three versions with varying starting prices, ranging from RMB 116,800 (about $16,000) to RMB 136,800.

The BYD Dolphin boasts a compact design, measuring 4,125 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Notably, this model represents a significant milestone for BYD as it’s the first production vehicle based on the company’s e-Platform 3.0. It delivers an impressive NEDC range of up to 405 kilometers on a single charge, making it an attractive option for environmentally conscious consumers.
One standout feature of the BYD Dolphin is its fast-charging capability, which can replenish the battery from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes, providing convenience for drivers on the go.
Stella Li, the executive vice president of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas, expressed optimism about the Dolphin’s reception in the Mexican market, stating, “This innovative electric vehicle offers outstanding performance and driving experiences, and we believe it will be well-received by local customers.”

BYD’s commitment to expanding its presence in Mexico is evident as the company has already established six dealerships across the country. Furthermore, the automaker has ambitious plans to open an additional 50 dealerships by the end of the year, ensuring its footprint extends to all 32 states of Mexico.
BYD initially introduced the Han EV, Tang EV, and Yuan Plus to the Mexican market on March 30, 2023. The BYD Dolphin now joins this lineup, further cementing the company’s position in Mexico’s growing electric vehicle sector.
