New Electric Off-Roader “Rawrr Mantis” Revs Up Off-Road Enthusiasts

In an era where off-road recreational parks face closures due to noise complaints from nearby residents, electric off-roaders are emerging as potential saviors of the sport. Electric dirtbikes, known for their lighter build and cost-effectiveness compared to their gasoline counterparts, have gained considerable popularity. One such newcomer in the electric dirtbike realm is the Rawrr Mantis, a machine that blends the worlds of mountain biking and motocross while delivering impressive technology and performance at an affordable price point.

Priced at just $4,999 in the US, the Rawrr Mantis has already made waves in the off-road community, garnering attention for its capabilities during rigorous off-road testing. To ensure its mettle, Rawrr enlisted none other than Caleb Tennant, a six-time South African Motocross Champion, to put the Mantis through its paces. Tennant’s point-of-view footage showcases the machine’s prowess, highlighting its competence in the hands of a skilled rider. Rawrr proudly claims that the Mantis has undergone more than 20,000 kilometers of testing and endured over 50,000 jumps.

Under the hood, or in this case, under the frame, the Rawrr Mantis boasts a mid-mounted electric motor driving the rear wheels via a chain. This powerplant produces 7.5 kilowatts, equivalent to approximately 10 horsepower, and an impressive 35 pound-feet (50 Newton-meters) of torque. With a relatively light weight of just 75 kilograms, the Mantis promises an exhilarating off-road experience. The 2.6-kilowatt-hour battery, weighing in at 15 kilograms, is removable and can be swapped out for extended track or trail sessions, offering a claimed range of 75 miles on a single charge.

What sets the Rawrr Mantis apart is its distinctive aluminum frame, which contributes to its tall and athletic stance. With a seat height of 850 millimeters, this electric motorbike offers remarkable off-road geometry, featuring 200 millimeters of suspension travel and an impressive 310 millimeters of ground clearance. Technological features abound, including four ride modes, smartphone connectivity, and the convenience of adjusting settings via a mobile app.

As the Rawrr Mantis makes its mark in the electric dirtbike scene, off-road enthusiasts have reason to celebrate, for it combines affordability with cutting-edge technology, potentially heralding a new era for electric off-roading.
