In a bid to broaden its electric vehicle (EV) offerings, Ford has unveiled the Mustang Mach-E Rally, marking the American automaker’s foray into the world of rally-inspired EVs. This latest addition to the Mustang Mach-E production model lineup boasts a rally-inspired chassis and increased ground clearance, signaling Ford’s commitment to combining performance and off-road capability.
The Mustang Mach-E has primarily been optimized for on-road performance, with the high-performance GT version being a standout offering since its launch. However, the Mustang Mach-E Rally aims to cater to those who seek adventure beyond the pavement, with specific adjustments to its chassis and drivetrain tuning, providing a sporty off-road experience.
Under the hood, the Mustang Mach-E Rally draws its technical prowess from the 358 kW Mustang Mach-E GT, equipped with electric drives on both the front and rear axles. Notably, this rally variant benefits from a boost in maximum torque, with Ford targeting approximately 880 Newton meters, compared to the Mach-E GT’s 860 Nm. The vehicle is powered by a 91-kilowatt-hour battery, ensuring ample energy for its off-road escapades.
A standout feature of the Mustang Mach-E Rally is the introduction of the RallySport Drive Mode, specifically tailored for off-road adventures. This mode enhances handling on loose terrain, allowing for more significant drift angles. The vehicle’s suspension has been specially tuned, featuring MagneRide shock absorbers and adapted springs, resulting in a 20-millimeter increase in ground clearance. For improved traction on gravel tracks, the Mustang Mach-E Rally is equipped with Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires mounted on rally-inspired white-painted 19-inch rims.
Visually, the Mustang Mach-E Rally sports a distinctive front skirt, white rims, and optional mud flaps. Additionally, customers can opt for a “dramatic rear spoiler” inspired by the Focus RS and unique contrasting accents, further enhancing its striking appearance.
Donna Dickson, Chief Engineer of the Mustang Mach-E range, expressed her excitement about this new addition, stating, “Just a year ago, this was merely an idea, and what you see today is a testament to the passion and intense creativity of our Model e team. We have always explored new areas of performance, and the combination of a rally-tuned suspension, dual motor electric powertrain, and wicked styling makes the Mustang Mach‑E Rally a different kind of performance vehicle that will excite customers chasing their next adventure.”
Ford plans to commence customer deliveries of the first Mustang Mach-E Rally shortly after orders open in spring 2024. However, pricing details are yet to be disclosed. It is important to note that the Mustang Mach-E Rally is positioned as a “new production model variant of the Mustang Mach-E series” and not a limited-edition special model.
