In a significant departure from its iconic compact car offerings, Smart has unveiled its all-new, all-electric Smart #3 SUV at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, marking its official European debut. The move signifies Smart’s evolution from a manufacturer of compact urban cars to a contender in the premium electric SUV market.

The Smart #3 SUV boasts an impressive blend of power and efficiency. The base model is equipped with a single electric motor, generating a substantial 268 horsepower – a remarkable feat for an entry-level model. For those seeking even more power, the Brabus variant features a twin-motor setup that delivers an astonishing 422 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. In comparison, the base model achieves the same speed in 5.8 seconds.

One might expect such power to come at the expense of range, but Smart defies that assumption. The single-motor Smart #3 offers a remarkable 455 kilometers of WLTP-certified range. Even the more potent Brabus model doesn’t disappoint, providing a respectable 435 kilometers on a full charge. To sweeten the deal for those in a hurry, the Smart #3 SUV supports DC fast charging at 150 kilowatts, allowing for a quick charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

To celebrate its European debut, Smart has introduced a special 25th Anniversary Edition, based on the Brabus model. This edition boasts a panoramic galaxy roof, upgraded LED headlights, and a luxurious interior. The seats are adorned with two-tone black-and-white leather, complemented by stylish red highlights.

Inside the Smart #3 SUV, a modern driver’s cockpit awaits. A 12.8-inch touchscreen takes center stage on the dashboard, flanked by a 9.2-inch HD digital instrument cluster. A 10-inch head-up display ensures drivers keep their attention on the road, while a Beats audio system featuring 13 speakers promises a concert-like audio experience during journeys.

The evolution of Smart, which initially emerged as a joint venture between Swatch and Mercedes, now under the stewardship of Geely and Mercedes, signifies a shift from its cute-car image to the realm of small yet premium electric SUVs. These vehicles, boasting impressive features and performance, challenge much larger competitors, making Smart’s foray into the electric SUV market an intriguing development in the automotive industry.
