In a strategic move to rival competitors like SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Mini EV, Chinese automotive powerhouse Dongfeng Motor has taken the automotive industry by storm with the official launch of its new brand, Nammi. Unveiled during a captivating event in Chengdu, Sichuan province, Dongfeng’s Nammi emerges as China’s pioneering car brand singularly dedicated to the realm of compact electric vehicles.

Harnessing the power of direct user engagement, Dongfeng places individuality at the core of Nammi’s ethos, with the letter “M” symbolizing the brand’s strong emphasis on the user, succinctly defined as “Me.” The essence of user participation extends further, with the brand’s architecture embracing quantum leaps in design and functionality.

Dongfeng’s cutting-edge quantum architecture, specifically the No. 3 platform, will be the exclusive foundation for the Nammi brand. Designed to redefine spatial dynamics, elevate safety standards, maximize energy efficiency, and amplify intelligence, this platform epitomizes Dongfeng’s commitment to innovation and excellence.

Nammi joins the ranks of Dongfeng’s portfolio of new energy vehicle (NEV) brands, a roster that includes esteemed names such as Voyah, M Hero, and eπ. As the latest addition, Nammi is poised to play a pivotal role in Dongfeng’s audacious ambition of achieving an impressive annual NEV sales target of 1 million units by 2025. Chen Hao, Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng, affirms the integral role Nammi will play in this pursuit.

Charting an independent course since February, Nammi laid out its comprehensive strategic plan for 2023-2025 in March, solidifying its intention to reshape the electric vehicle landscape. The brand’s inaugural model is slated for a momentous debut in the fourth quarter of this year. The subsequent years will see the introduction of 1 to 2 new models annually, each contributing to the brand’s ambitious sales target of exceeding 400,000 units by 2025.

At the heart of yesterday’s launch event was the unveiling of the Nammi 01, the brand’s maiden model. With its assembly line slated for September and mass production earmarked for November, the Nammi 01 is poised to mark a significant step forward for both Dongfeng and the electric vehicle industry at large. As the automotive landscape continues to evolve, Dongfeng’s Nammi brand stands ready to redefine expectations and drive innovation in the realm of small electric vehicles.
