In a recent development, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has disclosed the efficiency ratings for the Dual Motor version of the Rivian R1S. As anticipated, this release has underscored the model’s superior range when compared to the existing Quad Motor editions of the all-electric SUV.
The Rivian R1S now offers a diverse array of six different Dual Motor configurations, providing prospective buyers with a range of choices. Among these options, the most notable are the Dual Motor Large Battery equipped with 21-inch wheels, as well as the Performance Dual Motor Large Battery variant, also equipped with 21-inch wheels. Both of these iterations have garnered an efficiency rating of 78 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) across combined cycles. Remarkably, they can traverse a distance of 352 miles (566 km) on a single charge, further amplifying the SUV’s allure.
The subsequent in line are the Dual Motor Large Battery and Performance Dual Motor Large Battery models, albeit with the inclusion of 22-inch wheels. The introduction of these larger wheels does, however, result in a slightly reduced efficiency rating of 75 MPGe over combined cycles, accompanied by a slightly diminished range of 341 miles (549 km).
Lastly, the two remaining versions, namely the Dual Motor Large Battery with 20-inch all-terrain tires and the Performance Dual Motor Large Battery equipped with 20-inch all-terrain tires, exhibit a combined efficiency rating of 68 MPGe. These models offer a range of 307 miles (494 km), consolidating their position within the lineup.
Across all standard Dual Motor Large Battery variants, an output of 533 horsepower and 610 lb-ft (827 Nm) of torque is consistent, whereas the Performance model surpasses this with 665 horsepower and 829 lb-ft (1,123 Nm) of torque, exemplifying the diversity of power within the range.
To provide context to these range statistics, the Quad Motor Large Battery versions of the Rivian R1S present differing ranges, spanning from 274 miles (441 km) to 289 miles (465 km), 321 miles (517 km), and 303 miles (488 km), contingent on the inclusion of either 20-inch all-terrain wheels, standard 20-inch wheels, 21-inch wheels, or 22-inch wheels. Despite these variations, all Quad Motor iterations consistently offer 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft (1,231 Nm) of torque, with an acceleration to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a rapid 3.0 seconds. Comparatively, the standard Dual Motor and Performance Dual Motor variants take 4.5 seconds and 3.5 seconds, respectively, to achieve the same milestone.
