As the curtain rises on Tesla’s latest endeavor, the eagerly awaited refreshed version of the Tesla Model 3, known as Project Highland, is reportedly set to make its debut in the Chinese market later this month. Citing insights from the local media source Chinese Securities Journal, relayed by CnEVPost, insiders suggest that this anticipated launch is causing prospective buyers to hold off on their purchases, opting to await the arrival of the facelifted electric vehicle (EV).
The prevailing atmosphere in the Chinese electric vehicle landscape appears to be one of anticipation, with Tesla actively offering enticing deals for the current-generation Model 3. However, a significant number of potential customers are seemingly exercising patience in favor of the revamped iteration.
Presently, Tesla extends an insurance subsidy of RMB 8,000 (approximately $1,100) and a referral bonus of RMB 3,500 (about $500) to individuals selecting a Model 3 from the existing production line. Opting to wait for the enhanced variant results in the forfeiture of the insurance subsidy, yet customers can still avail themselves of the referral bonus if they receive their deliveries within a 60-day timeframe, according to information presented in the report.
It is worth noting that certain Tesla stores in China have reportedly initiated reservations for the upcoming refreshed Model 3, even though the official sales launch has yet to occur.
Notably, a recent report by local Chinese media outlet JRJ highlighted that the facelifted Model 3 had already commenced trial production at the company’s Shanghai facilities. With mass production purportedly on the horizon next month, coupled with imminent initial deliveries, this development could potentially elucidate the decision by the American electric vehicle manufacturer to reschedule the delivery timeline for European-bound Model 3 units manufactured in China. The revised schedule has shifted the previously anticipated August delivery dates to October.
According to insights from prior leaks and captured spy photos, the anticipated updates to the EV are poised to include a redesigned front fascia featuring novel headlights. Additionally, the refreshed tail lights are anticipated to showcase vertical turn indicators, a departure from the current horizontal configuration. Furthermore, manufacturing enhancements are projected to render the brand’s budget-friendly model more cost-effective to produce, with the potential to subsequently influence the retail pricing.
On the interior front, the upcoming Model 3 iteration is anticipated to introduce a fresh dashboard design, accompanied by new door panels complete with ambient lighting. Additionally, the model is poised to incorporate Tesla’s cutting-edge Hardware 4.0 driver assistance system computer.
