Volkswagen announced that it will invest a wind farm in northern Sweden as part of a commitment to a renewable energy project.
The wind farm investment is valued at €40 million ($45 million USD at current conversion rates) by 2025.
The wind power plant will generate around 100 GWh of electricity. That is enough to cover the needs of approximately 27,000 households per year.
The wind farm will be located at Skellefte in northern Sweden and will be taken over by wind farm specialist wpd Onshore Aldermyrberget AB.
“We are the first automaker to support the expansion of renewable energy on a large scale,” said Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen.
Volkswagen is the leader in EVs in Sweden, with a market share of 20 percent and 9,300 deliveries from January to November 2021.
Overall, Volkswagen anticipates that it will participate in about 20 other green electric projects in Spain, the UK, Finland and elsewhere by 2025.
