Nio, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has achieved a milestone as its cumulative battery swap services exceed 25 million. Within the last three months alone, Nio provided this revolutionary service 5 million times, reaching a total of 25,001,979 battery swaps to date. The company currently operates an extensive network of 1,553 battery swap stations across China, with 424 strategically positioned along major highways.
The inauguration of Nio’s first battery swap station in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018, initially faced skepticism from car owners. However, over the past few years, the convenience and practicality of the service have won over a wide acceptance among users, solidifying its success.
Nio’s battery swap service reached its first one million milestone after 29 months of operation, and on July 5, 2022, it celebrated the remarkable achievement of 10 million battery swaps, marking four years since its inception. Impressively, just nine months later, on April 3 of this year, Nio reached a cumulative total of 20 million battery swaps, underscoring its rapid growth and popularity. The recent 25 million milestone indicates an additional 5 million battery swap services were provided in the last 102 days, averaging approximately 50,000 services per day.
Looking ahead, Nio has ambitious plans to expand its global network of battery swap stations. At the inaugural Nio Power Day event on July 9, 2021, the company announced its target of establishing over 4,000 battery swap stations worldwide by the end of 2025, with 1,000 of them catering to overseas markets. In China alone, Nio aims to add 1,000 battery swap stations this year, reaching a total of 2,300 by the close of 2023. In Europe, the company already operates 19 battery swap stations, illustrating its commitment to global expansion.
Apart from battery swap stations, Nio also provides a robust charging infrastructure. Presently, the company boasts 1,501 supercharging stations in China, equipped with 7,372 charging posts. Furthermore, Nio offers 1,296 destination charging stations featuring 9,254 charging posts, providing customers with versatile charging options.
Notably, Nio recently adjusted its pricing strategy by separating the battery swap benefits from the vehicle’s cost. Previously, the company included the battery swap benefits, which were offered several times a month, in the vehicle prices. However, as of June 12, Nio removed the entitlement, resulting in a price reduction of all models by RMB 30,000 yuan ($4,200). Customers who desire these benefits can now opt for them by paying an additional 30,000 yuan.
Nio’s monumental achievement of surpassing 25 million battery swaps highlights its commitment to revolutionizing the electric vehicle industry. With its expanding network of battery swap stations and charging infrastructure, the company is poised to offer unparalleled convenience to electric vehicle owners worldwide.
