Shanghai-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer NIO has reached a significant milestone with the deployment of its advanced driver assist system (ADAS), Navigate on Pilot (NOP+), in Beijing. The company announced that NOP+ is now operational on expressways and urban expressways within the city’s fifth ring road, covering major road networks such as the second, third, fourth, and fifth ring roads.
NIO becomes the second EV maker to achieve this feat in Beijing, following XPeng’s recent launch of its City NPG Advanced Driver Assist System. NOP+ is comparable to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and is based on NIO’s next-generation NT 2.0 platform. The NT 2.0 models are powered by the NIO Adam supercomputer, equipped with four Nvidia DRIVE Orin system-on-chips (SoCs).

According to CnEVPost, NIO initiated the recruitment of its first beta testers towards the end of last year, offering features such as ramp entry and exit assistance, optimized lane changing, and active passing. In March, these features were expanded to all NT 2.0 models.
As of the end of June, NIO’s beta driver assist software had accumulated an impressive mileage of over 26.6 million miles (42.86 million kilometers). The company has been consistently adding more than 1.3 million miles (2.1 million kilometers) per week, demonstrating the robustness and progress of its ADAS technology.
On July 1, NIO announced that NOP+ had successfully completed its beta testing phase and was poised for an official release. The official driver assist software introduces new features such as a 3D Birds Eye View (BEV), enhancing the understanding of the vehicle’s surroundings by highlighting road elements, vehicle taillights, turn signals, and dynamic models.
Looking ahead, NIO has plans to expand the NOP+ system in the second half of the year to include battery swap services in highway service areas. Ultimately, NIO aims to extend this service nationwide, providing seamless long-distance travel for its customers.

In addition to achieving this milestone, NIO has recently launched several notable models, including the second-generation ES6, hailed as its most significant release yet. The company has also introduced its first electric station wagon, the ET5 Touring, specifically designed to cater to the European markets.
NIO’s successful deployment of the NOP+ ADAS in Beijing showcases its commitment to advancing autonomous driving technology, bringing enhanced safety and convenience to drivers in the region. With the official release of its ADAS, NIO solidifies its position as a leading player in the EV industry’s race toward intelligent and self-driving vehicles.
