Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, Xpeng, has initiated the delivery of its highly anticipated G6 SUV today, marking a significant milestone as the company endeavors to augment its production capabilities.

Xpeng announced on Weibo that deliveries of the G6 have commenced in several cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, and Changzhou. The company also revealed its plans to expand deliveries to additional cities in the near future.

The G6 was officially unveiled by Xpeng in China on June 29, and its success is pivotal for the automaker to revitalize lackluster sales. Available in five variants, the G6 comes with a range of starting prices: RMB 209,900 ($29,020), RMB 229,900, RMB 234,900, RMB 254,900, and RMB 276,900.

To Xpeng’s delight, the G6 garnered impressive pre-sales figures, with over 25,000 pre-orders received within a mere 72 hours since the commencement of pre-sales on June 9. Further showcasing its popularity, the model accumulated more than 35,000 pre-sale orders as of June 28, according to He Xiaopeng, the chairman and CEO of Xpeng.

Shortly after the G6 officially launched on June 29, around 28,000 firm orders with non-refundable deposits were placed in China by July 3, highlighting the strong demand for the SUV, as reported by local automotive media outlet D1EV.

While the initial reception of the G6 has been highly positive, Xpeng now faces the challenge of ramping up production capacity promptly to ensure that potential customers do not lose interest due to extended waiting times. Xpeng’s vice chairman and president, Brain Gu, emphasized that customer enthusiasm for the G6 is immense, resulting in an approximate 10-week waiting period for new orders.

Xpeng aims to continually reduce lead times for the G6, although the current focus lies on scaling up production capacity. Gu expressed optimism that the substantial number of orders received will enable the company to achieve monthly deliveries of 15,000 units in the third quarter and 20,000 units in the fourth quarter.

As Xpeng embarks on the delivery phase of the G6, all eyes are on the company’s ability to meet the escalating demand and further solidify its position in the competitive electric vehicle market.
