According to a report from China-based publication Late Post, Tesla’s Gigafactory in Mexico is expected to commence vehicle production in the first quarter of 2025. Citing sources reportedly familiar with the matter, the report indicates a slight delay of one or two quarters from the initial projections. The primary reason behind this revised timeline is Tesla’s underestimation of the challenges involved in constructing a facility in Mexico.

Teslarati, a news outlet focused on Tesla-related developments, notes that the American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer apparently encountered unexpected difficulties during the construction phase. As a result, the company has adjusted its target for the start of production at the Mexican Gigafactory.

Late Post states that Tesla has communicated the updated production timeline to its suppliers in China. These suppliers have been informed that if they do not establish their own manufacturing facilities in Mexico to support the overall production process, they may risk losing their export contracts to Tesla’s American factories.

Tesla’s foray into Mexico’s manufacturing landscape has generated significant anticipation, as the Gigafactory is expected to play a crucial role in the company’s global expansion plans. The facility will bolster Tesla’s production capabilities and enable it to cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles in North America and beyond.

The Mexican Gigafactory is part of Tesla’s broader strategy to establish regional manufacturing hubs worldwide. With existing factories in the United States and China, the addition of the Mexican facility will further enhance the company’s operational footprint and streamline its supply chain.

While the adjusted timeline represents a minor setback, Tesla remains committed to its long-term goals of sustainable transportation and renewable energy. The company continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and expand its manufacturing capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the global market.
