Polestar is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated electric vehicle (EV), the Polestar 3. While the company has made substantial investments in developing a powerful electric powertrain, it has also partnered with Swedish audio specialist Dirac to create an extraordinary sound system that will elevate the in-car audio experience to new heights.
Drivers and passengers who get behind the wheel of the Polestar 3 will be treated to an immersive 1,610-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system featuring an impressive array of 25 individual speakers. To ensure consistent audio excellence from every seat in the vehicle, Polestar has integrated Dirac’s Opteo Professional sound optimization solution.
Dirac recognizes the interior of a car as one of the most challenging acoustic environments, where speakers can often interfere with one another, leading to distortion and compromised audio clarity. To combat this, the company has employed its patented multiple-input/multiple-output mixed-phase impulse response correction technology. This innovative approach enables intelligent collaboration among all the speakers in the car, allowing them to correct each other’s impulse response and deliver a cohesive sound experience.
The result is a sound system that produces rich, well-balanced, and dynamic audio across all seats, without any of the muddiness or booming sounds often associated with car audio systems.
Lars Carlsson, Dirac’s general manager of Automotive Audio, expressed his confidence in the collaboration, stating, “Dirac is leading the world in automobile audio optimization, pioneering technologies that push the boundaries of automotive sound. As modern vehicles become increasingly complex, automakers like Polestar continue to rely on Dirac to help achieve their signature sound. Our Dirac Opteo Professional solution digitally optimizes speaker performance and ensures the perfect listening experience in any vehicle.”
It’s worth noting that the Polestar 3 isn’t the sole beneficiary of Dirac’s audio expertise. The Nio ET7, launched last year, also featured Dirac’s Opteo Professional system with its impressive 23-speaker setup.
However, there is some unfortunate news for prospective Polestar 3 buyers. Volvo, Polestar’s parent company, recently disclosed software-related issues with the latest-generation platform shared by the Polestar 3 and EX90 models. Consequently, production plans have been delayed by six months, pushing the start of Polestar 3 production to the first quarter of 2024.
Despite this setback, the collaboration between Polestar and Dirac promises an unparalleled in-car audio experience for future Polestar 3 owners. With the integration of Dirac’s cutting-edge audio optimization technology, the Polestar 3 is poised to deliver an exceptional sound system that enhances the overall driving experience, further cementing Polestar’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
