XPeng, the renowned electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has witnessed a remarkable reception for its newly unveiled SUV, the G6, as revealed by the company’s pre-sale order announcement today.

Within just 72 hours of initiating pre-sales, the XPeng G6 secured an impressive 25,000 orders, according to the company’s update on Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform.

Enthusiastic visitors flocked to XPeng stores over the past three days to experience the G6 show cars firsthand, highlighting their keen interest in the vehicle, XPeng reported.

Positive comments have poured in from visitors, commending the spaciousness, impressive 755 km range, and fast-charging capabilities of the XPeng G6, made possible by its cutting-edge 800 V high-voltage platform, the company stated.

XPeng’s chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, retweeted XPeng’s Weibo post, expressing his commitment to delivering the vehicles at the earliest opportunity and confirming that official configurations and pricing for the G6 will be announced by the end of June.

The G6 pre-sales commenced on June 9, with prices starting at RMB 225,000 ($31,510), significantly lower than the RMB 263,900 starting price of the Tesla Model Y in China.

The G6 show cars are already available for viewing at XPeng stores, and the official launch is scheduled for June 29, with deliveries set to begin in July, as per XPeng’s announcement last week.

Customers reserving an XPeng G6 by paying RMB 2,000 now will receive a generous RMB 5,000 discount upon payment for the vehicle.

XPeng unveiled its new SEPA (Smart Electric Platform Architecture) 2.0 at a technology conference in Shanghai on April 16, highlighting the G6 as the first model built on this innovative architecture.

On April 18, XPeng officially introduced the G6 at the Shanghai auto show, positioning it as the ultimate form of a car before achieving full autonomous driving capabilities.

Powered by the 800 V high-voltage platform, the G6 can achieve a range of 300 kilometers in just 10 minutes of charging, XPeng disclosed during the unveiling. Another XPeng model utilizing the 800 V technology is the G9.

Based on regulatory filings from March, the G6 is an all-electric mid-size SUV, measuring 4,753 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, and boasts a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

For comparison, the Tesla Model Y has similar dimensions, with a length of 4,750 mm, width of 1,921 mm, height of 1,624 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

During a conference call with analysts following the announcement of XPeng’s first-quarter earnings on May 24, the company’s management expressed confidence that the G6 would dominate the RMB 200,000 to 300,000 range in China’s new energy SUV market. They anticipate XPeng’s total deliveries to surpass industry standards in the third quarter.

In a research note sent to investors on May 30, Edison Yu’s team of analysts at Deutsche Bank reported that XPeng’s management anticipates monthly sales of the G6 to reach an impressive 6,000-8,000 units, further solidifying its position in the market.
