The Fisker Ocean has been named the Best Electric Vehicle of 2023 in the Red Dot Product Design Awards. The prestigious award, which has been presented annually since 1955, recognizes outstanding design quality. A panel of more than 50 international design experts evaluated the Fisker Ocean based on four key design qualities: product function, aesthetics, ease of use, and responsibility/sustainability. Fisker’s all-electric SUV was judged against global competition and stood out for its well-balanced, sculptural surface, elegant arcs, clean surfaces, and smooth highlights.
Fisker’s Chairman and CEO, Henrik Fisker, expressed pride in the win, especially given the importance placed on sustainability in the judging criteria. Fisker said the company was built to create the world’s most emotional and sustainable vehicles, and every design choice supports that mission. He added that the Fisker Ocean was designed to be simple, intuitive, and delightful in every aspect, including the exterior, interior, and technology features.
The Fisker Ocean marries a sleek, futuristic exterior design with a modern, tech-driven in-car experience. The SUV’s exterior boasts a sports car look, elegant arcs, and smooth highlights. The Ocean’s larger 22″ wheels ground its balanced proportions. It also features a SolarSky roof that integrates solar panels onto a panoramic glass roof, adding up to 1,500 miles of solar-powered range per year.
The all-electric Fisker Ocean is made with materials carefully selected to reduce environmental impact, including more than 50 kg of recycled polymers, bio-based content, and other recycled materials. The SUV’s aerodynamic silhouette and low, wide stance add efficiency to its range, which is estimated at 350 miles (US) and confirmed at 707 km/440 miles (UK).
Henrik Fisker and the Fisker design team will accept the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2023 for Electric Vehicle at the Red Dot Gala on June 19, 2023, in Essen, Germany. The Fisker Ocean design will also be part of “Milestones in Contemporary Design,” an exhibition of Red Dot Award winners at the Red Dot Design Museum from June 2023 to May 2024. Deliveries of the Fisker Ocean are set to begin in early May.
