Xiaomi has once again made headlines in the tech world with its announcement of the new Digital Car Key feature at MWC 2023. This new tool will be available on the latest Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones and has been developed in collaboration with Google and BMW. Xiaomi stated that these collaborations are vital in providing innovative features that make their customers’ lives easier.
With the Xiaomi Digital Car Key, you can now use your Xiaomi 13 to lock, unlock, or start your car. Furthermore, you can store, manage, and share your digital key with friends and family via Google Wallet or other platforms. Similar to Apple’s car key, the Xiaomi car key uses NFC technology and encryption technology, providing an additional layer of security. In case of theft or loss of your phone, you can also remotely deactivate the car key.

Xiaomi confirmed that eligible devices, including the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12 models, would receive the OTA update for the digital car key in Q2 of this year. However, only cars produced after July 2020 will support this feature, and it remains unclear which BMW models will be compatible with the tool. This new feature follows the recent unveiling of a similar mechanism for NIO electric cars earlier this month, allowing keyless entry to various Nio models on the NT 2.0 platform using smartphones such as the OPPO Find N2, OnePlus Ace, and Vivo X series.
Overall, Xiaomi’s new Digital Car Key feature represents a significant leap forward in the development of keyless entry systems for cars. With Xiaomi’s commitment to providing innovative features that simplify and improve the lives of their customers, we can expect more exciting developments from this tech giant in the future.
