Don Romano, President of Hyundai Auto Canada, expressed gratitude for the award, stating that the IONIQ 5 continues to receive recognition worldwide. He added that the company is honored to have won the top accolade from automotive experts in Canada. Romano also acknowledged the vehicle’s retro design, ultra-fast charging capabilities, spacious interior, and competitive range, which have contributed to its success in the market.
The award for Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) was determined by 49 AJAC CCOTY judges who evaluated the vehicles in real-world conditions on Canadian roads. KPMG verified the voting results. AJAC’s top awards are presented to the best vehicles in each category, including luxury segments.
Michel CrĆ©pault, AJAC President, lauded the dedication of the organization’s journalist members in delivering the results. He noted that their assessments provided Canadian drivers with insight into vehicles worthy of consideration for purchase in 2023.
The IONIQ 5 is a new standard for Hyundai electric vehicles, with a driving range of up to 488 kilometers and a best-in-class charging system that can gain 285 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. The new E-GMP platform enhances performance, driving dynamics, and optimizes interior volume and was the first model in Hyundai’s new family of IONIQ electric vehicles.
