Electrify America has announced the groundbreaking of its 75 MW “Solar Glow 1” photovoltaic project in San Bernardino County, California. The plant, built by Terra-Gen, is expected to be operational by the end of the summer and will generate an estimated 225,000 MWh of energy annually.
As part of a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement, Electrify America will purchase and retire all bundled environmental certificates associated with the solar project, deviating from the typical practice of purchasing certificates from a third-party supplier.
According to Rob Barrosa, Vice President of Technology at Electrify America, the company’s investment in Solar Glow 1 exemplifies the company’s commitment to sustainability and provides customers with the assurance that all charges made on its network are backed by 100% renewable energy.

Furthermore, during the 15-year VPPA, EA hopes its investment in Solar Glow 1 will offset an estimated two million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to planting nearly 40 million trees.
Jigar Shah, Head of Energy Services at Electrify America, stated that the groundbreaking of Solar Glow 1 is a significant step towards increasing annual renewable energy generation, comparable to the energy used by over 20,000 American homes annually.
Electrify America operates 800 EV charging stations across the US with almost 3,500 DC fast chargers and over 100 Level 2 chargers. The company plans to add an additional 112 stations in the future, bringing the total to 912 stations nationwide. While Tesla operates around 1,600 Supercharger stations in the US, Electrify America’s new solar project demonstrates its strong commitment to sustainable energy and a greener future.
