Hyundai Motor Group plans to build an electric car battery factory for battery-based electric vehicles in Indonesia.
The factory named Hyundai Energy Indonesia completes the infrastructure in pushing Indonesia to become the center for electric vehicles in Asean. The construction of the Hyundai Energy Indonesia electric car battery factory will begin in the first half of 2023.
Hyundai Motor Group will start mass production of battery packs a year later or in the second half of 2024.
Hyundai Motor Group in a press release quoted today, Friday, December 16 2022, explained that Hyundai Energy Indonesia will further complement the Hyundai electrification ecosystem in Indonesia.
Previously, the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia factory was established which produces battery electric cars (BEV) and a battery cell factory in collaboration with LG Energy Solution. The battery cell factory was built in Karawang, West Java.
Hyundai explained that Indonesia was chosen as the place to manufacture electric car battery packs because it has great potential to become an important player in the global electric vehicle industry.
Indonesia is also considered to be one of the leading countries in nickel and cobalt resources, the main materials for electric car batteries.
