The Polestar 2 has earned the coveted five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Polestar 2 is the only electric car in the current test round to earn five stars in each category.
Achievements make this electric sedan one of the safest new cars on American roads. This is a win for the Swedish brand, following reports of some major power outages earlier this year.
“Building on last year’s 5-Star EuroNCAP rating, we are happy to announce that Polestar 2 has also received the benchmark 5-star rating from the NHTSA in the United States,” said Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar North America. “Our customers can take pride and comfort knowing that their Polestar 2 features the latest technology, great design and sustainable materials complemented by a top safety rating.”
This achievement comes as no surprise, as Polestar has access to 95 years of safety research thanks to its parent company, Volvo.
NHTSA awarded the Polestar 2 a five-star rating after going through various tests including front, side and roll over crashes. Polestar 2 excels in these three areas earning five stars overall.
NHTSA is one of the most trusted safety sources globally, as it is not affiliated with any automotive manufacturer. Vehicles are purchased by NHTSA through a dealer network, and the manufacturer is not involved.
European officials gave the Polestar 2 a five-star rating as well. They give a score of 93% for protection of adult occupants, a score of 89% for protection of child occupants, a score of 80% for protection of vulnerable road users, and a score of 83% for the safety assistance department.
The Polestar 2 is the only manufacturer’s electric vehicle portfolio on the market. That won’t last long: It will soon be joined by a recently launched electric crossover called the 3 which will significantly expand the brand’s annual sales.
