Sondors had something of a shock when it first announced the Metacycle electric motorcycle in January 2021. The highlights at the time were its promising roads and $5,000 price tag. Since then, though, the ride hasn’t been smooth for Sondors for the Metacycle electric motorcycle.
In September 2021, Sondors announced a production delay due to supply chain issues and a shortage of resources. The company pushed the shipping date back to Q4 2021.
Sondors made a comeback in June 2022, with news that they had already taken delivery of the early model and would be sending available units to customers soon.
Now, Sondors has just announced that the first Metacycle deliveries have been made to customers in the US. The company estimates that all US units will arrive by the end of 2022.
The Metacycle electric motorcycle has an 8-kW (11-horsepower) permanent-magnet hub motor that produces 80 lb-ft of nominal torque. The powertrain used can produce 14.5 kW (20 horsepower) and 120 lb-ft of torque.
Users using standard Drive Mode produced a top speed of 60 mph while Sport mode produced a top speed of 80 mph.
Powered by a 4-kWh Li-ion battery, the Metacycle is claimed to have a range of up to 80 miles under ideal driving conditions, but users should expect a range closer to 60 miles.
The Metacycle has a seat height of 31.5 inches and a curb weight of 300 pounds. Hydraulic brakes prioritize Metacycle safety, while key-fob operation provides added rider comfort.
The Metacycle came with an introductory price of $5,000, but the updated model now carries an MSRP of $6,500.
