Google Maps now comes with filters for DC fast charging and plug type

So far if you type “EV charging station” into Google Maps, you will get a lot of results. The search did not differentiate between Level 2 chargers and DC fast chargers.

You can waste time with those search results, as charging with a Level 2 charger takes a long time.

However, if you drive further afield, there are 100 kW and 350 kW DC fast chargers that will cut charging time significantly.

Now, Google Maps is making a change by making DC fast chargers easier to find. This is because the latest version of Google Maps has a new fast charging filter.

When you search for charging on Google Maps, only 50+ kW chargers will be shown and this will significantly reduce charging time for drivers on the go.

Google Maps users can also filter search results by plug type in more countries. With this feature, users can choose between J1772, CCS (Combo 1 and 2), Type 2, CHAdeMo, and Tesla plugs.

The update builds on Google Map’s EV-focused features including real-time information on the availability of charging ports and their kW rating. Recently, the company launched optimized routing in Europe which chooses the best route depending on the type of powertrain – gas, diesel or electric – your car has.
