Vehicle sales in September in Germany showed optimism for the country’s auto industry despite the threat of an economic recession due to geopolitical problems.
In September 2022, the total number of cars sold compared to the same month in 2021 grew 14.1% and of which 19.7% were fully electric.
If we look at it year-on-year, EV sales grew 31.9%. Tesla accounted for the bulk of that, recording a 6.1% market share. Moreover, it is strengthened by supplies from Giga Berlin, which only started operating earlier this year.
Polestar also saw significant growth in Germany. The Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer saw a 114.5% increase in sales, although market share remained low – just 0.3%.
Local manufacturer Volkswagen is Germany’s largest EV seller, holding 18% of the entire market.
Hybrids, on the other hand, accounted for 30.4% of shipments, 12.6% of which were PHEVs. Interestingly enough, cars with internal combustion engines also experienced a significant improvement.
Cars with internal combustion engines grew 2.4% and accounted for 32.2% of total sales in September, while diesel vehicles made up 17% of total volume – a significant 21.8% year-over-year growth.
