Toyota has released a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant of the new Toyota Harrier in Japan (26/9). The PHEV variant of the new Toyota Harrier car was released along with the latest refresh for all Harrier variants.

In this refresh, the new Toyota Harrier in Japan gets upgraded Toyota Safety Sense integrative features and entertainment features.

What are the changes? First, the Harrier gets Toyota Safety Sense, which can detect vehicles coming when turning at intersections.

In addition to vehicles, this version of Toyota Safety Sense can also detect pedestrians crossing when the car turns.

Not only Toyota Safety Sense, the refreshed version of the Harrier has received a 12.3-inch head unit that already has a navigation system and WiFi features.

But the biggest change in the refreshed Harrier is the addition of the PHEV Z Plug-in Hybrid variant as its flagship variant.

What are the specifications like? Starting from the engine, the Harrier PHEV has a 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with a capacity of 2,487 cc.

Similar to the hybrid version, this engine is capable of producing 174 hp/6,000 rpm and 219 Nm of peak torque.

The engine works in conjunction with an electric motor coded 5NM which is capable of producing 179 hp and 270 Nm of torque.

Well different from the hybrids available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, the Harrier PHEV comes specifically with all-wheel drive E-Four.

The all-wheel drive of the E-Four is realized by the addition of a 4NM rear-wheel drive electric motor producing 54 hp and 121 Nm of torque.

In combination, Toyota calls the Harrier PHEV to have 301 hp of power that is channeled to all wheels.

Of course about the battery, the Harrier PHEV is equipped with a battery capacity of 18.1 kWh which is claimed to provide a full electric range of 93 kilometers.
