US-based electric commercial vehicle maker Nikola has unveiled the European version of the Tre truck at IAA Transportation 2022.

As in other markets, customers in Europe will be offered Tre in the form of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).

The first is called the Tre European 4×2 Artic and combines nine battery packs to offer a total energy storage of up to 738 kWh.

The company says that this version of the Tre has a range of up to 530 km (329 miles) and can be charged to 80 percent in just 100 minutes when plugged into a 350 kW charger.

The truck has a wheelbase of 4,021 mm (158 inches) and has been brought to life through a partnership with Iveco.

Meanwhile, the Nikola Tre FCEV Artic 6×2 is slightly smaller with a wheelbase of 3,932 mm (154.8 inches) and can hold about 70 kg of hydrogen at a pressure of 700 bar.

The truck offers a range of up to 800 km (497 miles) and can be recharged in just 20 minutes.

The development of this model is not as advanced as the BEV version, as the FCEV will not enter the European market until 2024.

“We have made history with the first product for the European market from a joint partnership between IVECO and Nikola Corporation,” said Luca Sra, president of Iveco Group’s truck business unit.

“Together, our team has designed a modular platform capable of housing fuel cell and battery propulsion technologies, starting with the 4×2 Artic European version of the Nikola Tre BEV heavy-duty truck debuting at IAA Transportation.”
