Polestar announced that the O2 concept electric vehicle will become a production model under the name Polestar 6. The O2 electric roadster concept itself was introduced by the company earlier this year.
The model went into mass production and is expected to launch in 2026 under the name Polestar 6, according to a press release.
The O2 electric roadster concept debuted in Los Angeles in March, continuing the Polestar Precept concept’s vision of future design, technology and sustainability.
Plans to make the O2 electric roadster Concept a production model were revealed by the CEO of Polestar in July. In an interview with TopGear, Thomas Ingenlath said that realizing the O2 concept is not an easy thing considering the complexity aspect it has.
“You have to respect the complexity. We have to see where the O2 is going. When you’ve painted a painting, it’s always good to let it rest, and look at it after a couple of months and still see if it’s a good painting,” said Thomas Ingenlath
The Polestar 6 comes with a retractable hardtop roof, an 800 volt electrical architecture that allows for fast recharging. The power generated is up to 884 horsepower, from a dual motor powertrain that can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds.
Polestar plans to issue one electric vehicle model each year. The company has announced plans to launch three new electric vehicle models – a flagship SUV, crossover and luxury sedan, called the Polestar 3, 4 and 5 respectively. The Polestar 3 SUV, will go into production at Volvo’s US plant this fall.
