The Hyundai Ioniq which was first introduced to the public in 2016 will be retiring soon. The Hyundai Ioniq itself comes in three powertrain versions (hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric).
According to Hyundai, the series production of the Hyundai Ioniq will end at its Ulsan production facility in July 2022.
The all-electric Hyundai Ioniq Electric and the Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In hybrid plug-in are no longer available to order for the US market.
Hyundai said the termination was due to a change in customer demand.
Ioniq’s discontinuation is not surprising. Hyundai has long planned to discontinue the Ioniq to focus on all-electrics based on E-GMP, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60 and the crossover/SUV segment.
The Hyundai Ioniq has a role as a benchmark for Hyundai’s next electric vehicle models such as the Ioniq 5, KIA EV6 and and Genesis GV60. The legacy of the Hyundai Ioniq will also be carried on by the upcoming Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7 models.
The Hyundai Ioniq is known for its efficiency. The Hyundai Ioniq has two versions, the first with a 28 kWh battery for the EPA’s 124 miles (200 km) of range and the second with a 38.3 kWh battery for up to 170 miles (274 km) of the EPA’s range.
