Olectra Greentech received an order from Mumbai for 2,100 electric buses. The order came from Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) which is the local transport operator for the Indian metropolitan city of Mumbai. Olectra is an Indian bus manufacturer and partner of BYD.
The order is in the form of a 12 meter long electric bus that will be delivered over the next twelve months. The contract period for this order is twelve years during which Olectra is also responsible for vehicle maintenance.
The value of this order is around 443 million euros. This is not only Olectra’s largest order to date, but also the largest order for electric transport in India so far.

In Mumbai, 40 electric buses from Olectra are already operating. In collaboration with BYD, which is the world’s largest electric bus manufacturer, Olectra is believed to be able to provide more than two thousand buses quickly within 12 months.
The specifications, details and range of the bus have not been disclosed so far. However Olectra has a K9 bus which is 12 meters long and a range of about 200 km on a single charge.

Olectra-BYD buses are already operating, not only in Mumbai but also in Hyderabad, Pune, Goa, Deharadun, Surat, Ahmedabad, Silvasa and Nagpur.
