Daimler Truck reveals eActros LongHaul electric truck prototype with 500 km of range

After successfully marketing the Mercedes-Benz eActros as a Heavy-duty electric distribution truck in 2021, Daimler Trucks announced that it is systematically moving forward to deliver more battery-electric truck models for this year and the years to come.

It is planned that the German automotive manufacturer will introduce a special electric truck for the long-distance delivery segment, namely the eActros LongHaul which has a range of about 500 km on a single electric battery charge. The truck is slated to be ready for series production in 2024.

The first prototype of the 40-ton truck has already undergone internal tests and Mercedes-Benz Trucks engineers plan to start testing the electric truck on public roads this year. Interestingly, this LongHaul eActros is claimed to have a high-performance charging called “Megawatt Charging”.

Not only that, Daimler Trucks is also preparing additional variants of the Mercedes-Benz eActros truck such as the eActros 300 and eActros 400. The Mercedes-Benz eEconic is also scheduled to start the second series production line at the Worth plant, Germany in early July.

This is in line with the goal of Mercedes-Benz Trucks in its mission to increase the share of new CO2 neutral vehicles in Europe to more than 50 percent by 2030.

To further introduce truck customers from across Europe to e-mobility, the German manufacturer is also preparing to host an event spanning several weeks around the Wörth location starting in early June.

At the event, experts from Mercedes-Benz Trucks will explain to around 1,000 participants about the central aspects of e-mobility, from infrastructure, services to electric models. In addition, customers will have the opportunity to ride the eActros 300 on challenging routes and with realistic payloads.

Karin Rådström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks said that the overwhelming interest in the eActros driving event in Wörth is further evidence of the popularity e-mobility has gained customers.

“Thus, customers send a strong signal to all stakeholders to combine efforts and quickly put more electric trucks on the road, expand charging infrastructure and create a cost balance,” he explained, Tuesday (31/5/2022).

A little to say, Daimler Trucks has ambitions to offer new vehicles in Europe, Japan and North America that run on CO2 neutral (“tank-to-wheel”) power by 2039.

Two battery-electric vehicle models such as the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro bus and the Mercedes-Benz eActros truck have been launched off the assembly line in series production from 2018 and 2021 followed by the Mercedes-Benz eEconic, Fuso eCanter and Freightliner eCascadia later this year, and local vehicles. another CO2 neutral is also planned.
