Green SM has launched its all-electric taxi service in Los Angeles, California, marking its entry into North America and its ninth global market. The Vietnamese mobility company plans to serve local residents with an electric vehicle fleet, professionally trained drivers and multiple booking options.
The service began on October 13. Customers can book rides through the Green SM app, call the company’s hotline or hail a vehicle on the street. The service covers everyday journeys, longer trips and airport transfers.
The Los Angeles launch expands Green SM’s international operations following its entry into markets across Asia and Europe. The company said its US operations will focus on service reliability, driver training and customer experience.
Electric Fleet and Booking Options
Green SM operates an all-electric fleet of VinFast vehicles in Los Angeles, including the VinFast VF 8. The company said the vehicles offer a spacious cabin and a focus on passenger comfort.
Its service model is based on five commitments: vehicles, drivers, pricing, customer experience and environmental impact. The company said it would provide trained drivers, transparent fare information and customer support as it develops its local operations.
To mark the launch, Green SM is offering new customers a 50% discount on their first five rides, capped at $12 per trip. Customers can also receive a complimentary Green Pass membership, which includes 10 discount vouchers each month. Each voucher provides 30% off a ride, capped at $10.
Local Recruitment and Operations
Hoang Thanh Hang, CEO of Green SM in the United States, said the company intends to build relationships with customers, drivers and local communities as it establishes its presence in the market.
The United States represents an important milestone in Green SM’s growth journey. We are not simply expanding into a new market. We aim to build trust with customers, drivers and local communities, one journey at a time. Our experience across international markets has shown us that the future of electric mobility is not defined by an all-electric fleet alone. It also depends on service quality, well-trained and reliable drivers, and genuine care in every customer interaction.
Following the launch, Green SM plans to expand its local team, strengthen operational capabilities and recruit and train drivers in the region. The company said these efforts are intended to create employment opportunities and contribute to the adoption of lower-emission transportation.
International Expansion
Founded in Vietnam in 2023, Green SM operates across Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, Denmark and the Netherlands. Los Angeles is its first market in North America and its ninth market globally.
The company reports that it has completed approximately 850 million rides covering nearly 6 billion kilometers. Green SM also estimates that its operations have helped avoid more than 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, which it compares with the amount absorbed by approximately 36 million trees.
In the United States, Green SM is combining VinFast electric vehicles with its ride-hailing and fleet operating capabilities. The company plans to continue investing in its vehicles, technology, driver team and service quality as it develops its presence in the US market.
